Two girls – Liliana and Noémia – both from Idugo – have just embarked on their University Degree courses – in Chemistry and in Industrial Electricity, respectively.

They will be the first members of Idugo to have reached this level of education in recent memory. Prior to the arrival of the Zalala Foundation only a small minority of young people completed primary school each year. Of those who do complete their primary level schooling, very few move into secondary education as there are no secondary schools in either of the two communities where we work. With the support of the Irish Embassy in Mozambique and of our generous donors, the Foundation funded the secondary education of 8 girls from Idugo and Supinho. Four of these girls are training to be nurses. Liliana and Noémia opted for university entry and both passed their exams and have now embarked on their degree journey. Their success will inspire girls and boys in both communities for generations to come.
