Each year, several hundred of the poorest children in and around Quelimane, benefit from a sponsorship programme to help them through school. The package received by each child includes school books and writing materials, a school bag, shoes and 2 complete sets of school uniform. This year, for the first time, the uniforms were made by the Supinho Women’s Sewing Group! The uniforms were handed to the children at a special ceremony, which took place on 1st June, International Children’s Day, in the Quelimane Town Hall. The First Lady of Quelimane, who runs the sponsorship programme, has put in an order for another 400 uniforms for next year’s programme and the women in Supinho have already started preparing for this large order!
