Over the last few months, Idugo has been the centre of intense activity as the construction of the long-awaited Maternity centre on the island goes into full swing!
Local boat owners from Idugo took on the transport of materials from the mainland in their small dugout canoes.
Local community leaders organised local people – most women and girls – who all assisted in the transport of bricks and breeze blocks to the construction site, filling the air with the sounds of their joyful singing and laughter.
Basic accommodation facilities have been provided for the construction team who will be based permanently on the site during the construction period between now and December when the maternity wing is expected to have been completed. They have been greatly assisted by the local people, men, women, young and old, all of whom are anxious and eager to help.
