Earlier this month, a small library and reading corner was set up in the Foundation’s community centre in Supinho. The idea was conceived after receiving a donation of books and pamphlets and books from Save the Children in Quelimane. With funds provided through the Irish Embassy in Maputo, we were able to buy shelves and create a small library and reading corner.
Some books focus on girls’ rights, others on poetry, stories, fables, history and so on. The aim is to encourage young people to take up reading and to provide a space for sharing their thoughts and ideas. Reading sessions and training on the library loan system will be provided by members of ARZ – the Association of Girls’ Groups in Zambezia and by members of the Children’s Parliament who work closely with AORIS – the Girls’s Group of Supinho and Idugo. We hope that over time the library will grow and all donations are warmly welcomed!
